My Obituary: From husband Fred Louis Young regarding Audrey Deane Young, who passed on October 5, 2023 at George Washington University Hospital:
Audrey was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Before reaching her third birthday, Audrey relocated to Roanoke, Virginia to her grandmother, Lillian “Pete”Deane, and other family members, including a surviving brother, John “Butch” Deane.
Audrey received her grade school and high school education in Roanoke. After high school, Audrey attended and graduated from Virginia Union University, in Richmond, Virginia.
As a recent college graduate, Audrey decided to move to Washington, D.C. for employment with the DC Parks and Recreation. She later retired as Director of an After School Program at Bancroff Elementary School.
Audrey was the Lioness for me, and our two boys Bryan and Riccardo. She always set the tone of the present situation. Her daily employment with DC Recreation, her part-time self employment into selling arts & crafts, her time making sure her boys attended the best schools (even if they were out of boundary), generated a success mentality, that will always exist. Even Audrey’s cooking kept the whole family happy, peaceful, and always wanting more. She acquired her superb cooking from her grandmother Lillian “Pete” Deane. Lillian was the cook and housekeeper for several very, very rich families in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Roanoke, Virginia. Matter of fact, at one time the Governor of Virginia, would only eat the cakes baked by “Pete” Deane. So that cooking attitude, care, and ability, rested in Audrey to the delight of the immediate family, and our grandchildren (Devin, Bryan Jr., Autumn, Xavier, Lyric, Riccardo Jr., Rebecca, and Daniel). By the way, the Daughters-in-Law (Danielle and Tamika “Tammy” ) and their families loved Audrey’s cooking also.
Yes, being the family Lioness, described Audrey‘s communication skills and economic skills. Do not try to out think, or talk over Audrey, when it involves the well being of her, and especially her family. Your feelings will suffer and or, the company will learn how to treat a customer. And please, never try to cheat Audrey out of one penny.
I will truly miss my Audrey. Every day was a new experience and challenge to please her, learn from her, and have fun with her. And even though she would never admit it, I taught her a few things in the 50 years we were married.
Audrey’s Christian belief and my Christian belief in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, truly kept us together in all of our times of happiness and various degrees of disagreements. Audrey is with God now. I will be there with you my Audrey, my Lioness, when God calls me too. Love Ya!!!
