Carolyn Jones

Carolyn Groom Jones, affectionately known as “Toots” was born September 28, 1948, in Washington, DC. She was the devoted and loving daughter of the late Lucille & Clyde Groom. The Lord called her home on January 13, 2024.

Carolyn was raised and educated in the District of Columbia Public School System and graduated from Dunbar High School. Carolyn immediately worked out of high school with IBM as a programmer for 15 years. She took on an Office Manager position at Apple Courier. Moved on to Arent Fox Law Firm as Office manager where she retired in June 2013.

Although Carolyn was a city girl, she was no stranger to the country. She spent countless days in Locus Groove Virginia with her family. She loved all the family activities of playing cards. Having family reunions. Cooking, eating crabs with her Millers and just having a good time talking and laughing with all. Everyone knows she was a fashion DIVA with her matching hats.

Carolyn was joined in marriage with the late Lawrence Jones. They remained married for over 50 years until he departed this earth. They raised a son, Clyde Jones. Carolyn received the Lord as her personal savior at an early age. She was a devoted member of the Guildfield Baptist Church in NE, Washington DC.

Carolyn was a devoted wife. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Carolyn leaves to cherish her loving memories her son Clyde Jones (Nicole Randolph); stepdaughter Roxanne Hargrove (Chauncey Hargrove); stepson Lawrence “Mann” Jones; goddaughter Deana Walker; grandson DeAndre Shipman, Sr; granddaughters Chakita Brown, Tiffany Fails; great grandchildren DeAndre Shipman, Jr., Teniyah Brown, Cilena Jones, Adaire Shipman. Devoted sister Diane Proctor; godsister Robin Griffon; nephews Alvin Proctor, Brandon Thomas; great nieces Breonna, Brittany Proctor. A host of cousins (one special cousin, namesake Carolyn Washington, who holds a special place in her heart) and friends. ​​
