Deborah Yvonne Walker was born on October 28, 1949 to Allen and Bernice Walker in Washington, DC. She was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School and the Martha Washington School of Nursing, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma.
Deborah began her nursing career at Howard University Hospital in 1977, where she dedicated herself to compassionate care and excellence. Throughout her tenure, she received numerous certificates recognizing her outstanding service. After a long and fulfilling career, she retired in 2015.
She had a deep love for nursing and remained committed to serving her community. Despite opportunities to work at more prestigious institutions, Deborah chose to continue caring for those in her own community-where her heart truly belonged.
A woman of strong faith, Deborah loved the Lord and was an active member of the Maranatha Gospel Hall Woman’s Group for as long as her health allowed.
Deborah peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Washington Hospital Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved siblings: Barbara, Norman, Maurice and Ralph Walker.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter, Karen Walker; grandchildren: Brittany Walker, Taylor Walker, Jarryl Poole, and Miranda Poole; great-grandchildren, Marley, Major, and Ma'at Rainey, and the newest addition to the family, Nina Victoria.
She is also survived by her loving siblings: Eleanor, Allen Jr., Harold, Edward, Gerald, and Roland Walker, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
"WELL DONE, GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT...ENTER INTO THE JOY OF YOUR LORD." MATTHEW 25:23
