Jacquelyn Eileen Milburn Ponton was lovingly known as “Jackie”, Mommy, “Love Bug”, and Aunt Jackie, heavenly transitioned on Friday August 1, 2025 at Washington Hospital Center. On February 19, 1945, Jackie was the third of four children born to the late John E. Milburn Sr. and Elaine Roye Milburn, in Washington DC.. She was raised in the Church of Christian Science where she was a devoted lifelong member and held various leadership roles in the church. She lived her life through her faith, love, and her family. Jackie met and married the love of her life, Eddie L. Ponton on June 19, 1971. Jackie and Eddie were married for 46 years, until his transition in 2017. Eddie lovingly referred to Jackie as his, “Love Bug”. Their union blessed them with one daughter, Noelle who they loved and cherished beyond words.
Jackie was raised in a loving family and community in the Petworth neighborhood. She was known in the neighborhood for her ability to outdo everything the boys did. She ran faster, jumped higher, loved to play bow and arrow, and was the protector of her younger sister, Elizabeth. Scared she was not! As a high achiever, she graduated from Benjamin Banneker Junior High and Theodore Roosevelt High School with honors.
Jackie was raised in Campfire and continued her commitment to the organization through adulthood. She demonstrated how to live a life filled with“WoHeLo” - work, health, and love. Jackie began her 35+ year career at AFSCME in the copy room and retired as a well respected Labor Economist fighting for employee union rights. She was passionate and fought tirelessly for social justice, fair pay, and equality in the workplace.
Jackie is survived and her memory treasured by, her daughter Noelle, one sister Elizabeth, three nieces: Nicole Fuller, Terri Milburn, and Hazel Patricia Wood; one nephew John Milburn III; two sister-in-laws: Ann Milburn and Virginia Milburn, her church family, and a host of friends.
