SPC Malcolm Charles Hatton, 22, of Cheverly, MD, passed away on April 16th, 2026, in Savannah, GA. Malcolm was born in Washington, DC, to Jameana Hatton and Thaddeus Mckeamer. He attended Ferebee-Hope and JC Nalle Elementary, SEED Public Charter School, KIPP DC Valor Academy, and graduated from KIPP DC College Preparatory in 2022. Malcolm attended Allegany College of Maryland for sometime, but in 2023, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he studied to become a mechanized transport technician and met his future wife, Arriel Reid.
Malcolm was passionate about basketball, video games, and spending time with his family and friends. He could often be found playing the latest installment of 2k, doing all three at the same time.
Malcolm had an incredible way with kids and was so excited to become a father. He spent one of his high school summers as a camp counselor with the National Center for Children and Families at his former elementary school. He was also an engaged and proud big brother to his younger sisters and adopted siblings – each of whom admired and loved him fiercely. During the summers he spent in Cheverly, he was a staple at the community pool, where he was constantly swarmed by neighborhood kids all hoping to be his next playful target or egging him on to more and more daring acrobatics off the diving board.
In the months before his passing, Malcolm was planning for life after the army, strongly considering moving his young family back to the DC area to follow in his brother's footsteps and continue his career in public service as an officer in the DC Metropolitan Police Department.
Malcolm was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rosalind and Charles Hatton, his uncle, Carlos Hatton and big cousin, Vondell Hatton. He is survived by his wife, Arriel, his daughter, Alaina, his mother, Jameana, his father, Thaddeus, his sisters, Mashay, Jasmine, Theresa, and Eternity, his brothers, James and Carlos, his adopted parents, Jessica and Travis, and his adopted siblings, Celeigh, Remy, and Adrian.
His homegoing will be held at the First Baptist Church of Marshall Heights on May 1st at 11am viewing 12:00pm service
