Mamie Outlaw Obituary

Mamie Loronia Outlaw, 81, of Oxon Hill, M.D., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday Apr. 15, 2026. Born on July 4, 1944, in Liberty, N.C., she was the daughter of George W. and Louise (Graves) Gales, and the wife of John T. Outlaw, of Oxon Hill, M.D.

Mamie graduated from Randolph High School in Liberty, N.C., in 1962. After graduating, Mamie moved to Washington, D.C., where she met and married her husband, John, and started her beloved family. Mamie was a devoted wife and mother who also worked as a teacher aide at Hendley Elementary School and as a secretary at Frank W. Ballou Senior High School.

Mamie treasured time spent with her family celebrating milestones and holidays, and delighted in the family’s 4th of July cookout in honor of her birthday each year. Mamie became an avid walker and thoroughly enjoyed walking in her neighborhood with her husband and cherished dogs, Hunter and Champ. In addition to her devotion to her family, Mamie was a parishioner at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and attended weekly mass there with her husband for over 40 years.

Mamie is survived by her husband of 61 years, John; 3 sons, Patrick (Elizabeth), Peter, and John (Olivia); stepson Stephen; grandchildren Janelle, Olivia, and John; great-grandchildren, Jaylen, and Jakayla; brother George; sisters Delois and Jeannie; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Mamie was preceded in death by her siblings, Harveston, Fray, Johnny, Peter, Vann, Nancy, Ella, Mattie, and Josephine.
