Mary Nunn Obituary

Mary Nunn, affectionately known as Tuts. Mary was born on September 30, 1934 in Rectortown, VA and departed this life on January 4, 2024 in Washington, DC.

During her formative years, Mary relocated to Washington DC where she was educated by the DC Public school system. Mary welcomed Christ into her life and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist church. She loved and was a faithful usher in the service of the Lord. She was dedicated to the Nursing Unit at Brightlight Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her health no longer permitted her to attend, but she never abandoned God. She retired as a Unit Secretary for the Neurology Department, with 45 years of loyal service to Georgetown University Medical Center. Mary was recognized and appreciated for her dedicated and continued service to the University community.

Mary had a few hobbies that she was passionate about, such as gardening and volunteering. Mary loved gardening and would garden her yard from sun up to sun down. When she was in the yard, passerby’s in the Brookland area would compliment her on the beauty of her yard. Mary was an avid volunteer at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She enjoyed the various performances and the myriad of people she encountered ushering them to their seats.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Killis Houston, sister, Sarah Elizabeth Bethea, husband, Wallace Charles Nunn, daughters, Deborah Noel and Sharon Howard, grand daughter, Toi Bracey and great grandaughter, Jiana Bullock.  She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Joyce Henderson (Michael), Carolyn Noel, Virginia “Paulette” Artist, Eileen Ford, Mary “Penny” Williams, Beulah “Babe” Bracey, sons, Kennedy Frierson (Deborah), William “Billy” Williams (Kathleen) and John Bracey. Grandchildren, Janae Henderson, Ronald Howard, Christopher Noel and Eric Howard. Great Grandchildren, Tamia Howard, Jaylen Howard, Jasmine Howard, Crystal Noel, E’monni Howard, Elise Howard, Faith Howard, and Hope Howard, many nieces, nephews and host of other loving relatives and friends.
