Phillip A. Crews Sr. was born on February 21, 1962, to the late Roy E. Crews and Ruby R. Crews. Phillip peacefully departed this life on Thursday, May 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy as vibrant, unforgettable, and impactful as the life he lived.
Phillip attended the District of Columbia Public School system and graduated from McKinley High School in 1981. He later attended the University of the District of Columbia, where he studied business. A hardworking and determined man, Phillip became a successful entrepreneur, owning both a barber shop and hair salon, as well as his hauling company, Poor Boy Hauling Services.
To know Phillip was to know a man of strength, dedication, and deep love for his family. He believed that anything worth doing deserved absolute commitment and hard work. Whether he was working as an electrician with Hunts, Inc., where he dedicated eight years of service until his passing, or managing projects around the house, Phillip’s work ethic was unmatched.
Phillip was known for enjoying life to the fullest. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and loved seafood, no matter how it made him feel afterward. He enjoyed traveling, relaxing at the beach, and spending time doing the things that brought him joy. He often reminded those around him to enjoy life because nothing is guaranteed.
Above all else, Phillip loved his family deeply and unconditionally. His stern nature was never rooted in hardness, but in his desire to protect, provide for, and guide those he loved most. His family was his proudest accomplishment, and beneath his strong exterior was a heart full of compassion, generosity, and unwavering love. Phillip also had an unforgettable personality. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit, and a storytelling ability that could light up any room. His laughter was contagious, and his charismatic spirit naturally drew people toward him. He loved cars, cigars, watches, and his favorite drink, Crown Royal. Whether sharing jokes, telling stories, or simply spending time with loved ones, Phillip created memories that will forever be cherished.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby R. Crews and Roy Edward Crews; and his brothers, Dana Crews, Tyrone Crews, and Robert Robinson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Veronica Renee King Crews; his brothers, Ralph Crews (Sheila Crews) and Ronald Crews; his sister, Joan Flower; his children, Phillip A. Crews Jr., Maurice Allen, Renard William, Trevon King, Roy E. Crews, Tamia Crews, Diamond Crews, Patricia Redmond, and Lakeia G. Crews; and his beloved grandchildren, Morgan Allen, Nyla Slye, Semaj Jenkins, Alayah Crews, and Alanah Crews. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him tremendously.
Phillip’s strength, wisdom, love, and unwavering dedication to his family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though he may be gone from this earthly life, his spirit and the countless memories he created will continue to live on through all the lives he touched.
