Richard A. McDermott, 71, went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2024. Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Elizabeth McDermott, and son Richard McDermott Jr. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Emma. Children Erica (Jeff), Melissa (Derron), Joseph, and daughter-in-law Jessica (Richard). Grandchildren Nina, Richard, JP, Marcus, DJ, Maddie, Rosalee. Siblings Joe McDermott, James McDermott, Elizabeth Rossiter, and Judith Harrigan-Yokum.
He was a wonderful husband, a loving father, and an amazing grandfather. He touched many lives by coaching the Landover Hill Boys and Girls Club and taught many children at Landover Hills Baptist church. He loved laughing, joking, and playing games with family and friends. For the most part, he was a good sport. He loved spending time in Florida and traveling with his brothers and sister.
He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. The battle just showed his love and commitment to his family. We shall mourn his absence for the rest of our days. We shall also rejoice when we meet again in Heaven with our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. To God be the glory.
