Known to many by his last name only “MACKEY”, was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Bradford B. Mackey and Francine Marshall Mackey.
Educated in DCPS and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1983. While in high school, he was a part of the marching band drum section. In adult life, his talents were used traveling and serving church organizations and gospel singing groups (Inspirational Gospel Singers & House of Prayer).
From 1983 – 1987 he was employed with Long Fence Company. He later moved on to a more rewarding job at the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) in Washington, D.C. for 23 years. Rodney’s final years of employment was at Robinson Funeral Home in Washington, D.C.
Rodney was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Jensie Johanna Mackey and Brother, Daryl R. Mackey. He is survived by his loving children, Brianna Davis Mackey, Rodney Mackey, Jr., and Britney Turner Mackey; Aunt, Mary Johnson; Sister, LaTonya Mackey Crockett; Brother-in-Law, Aaron Crockett; Brothers, Manuel Mackey, Kevin Mackey, Marcus Mackey, and Bradford Mackey; Sister-in-Laws, Shirley Mackey, Cheryl Mackey, and Lizbeth Mackey; Nieces, Keisha (El), Simone (Doug), Tyra, Marissa; Nephews; Maurese, Ricardo, Devin, Drew, Marco, Mathew; Great Nieces; London, Nairah, Amari, Amaya, Malia; Great Nephews; Dylan and Zeke and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
