Sadie Jenkins was born on March 31,1931 in Salters, South Carolina to proud parents John Hugee and Nettie (Thompson) Hugee. She was the fourth daughter of nine children. Sadie graduated from Tomlinson High School in Kingstree, South Carolina. A born leader, she guided some of her younger siblings as they moved from South Carolina to Washington, D.C.
